Asian-Style Rub
This rub, featuring Chinese Five Spice and brown sugar, is a great match for pork ribs and chicken drumsticks and totally different take on traditional BBQ. It's so good, in fact, that we used this rub on marinated chicken drumsticks to win 3rd place in the Chicken category at the 2015 Wildwood Barbecue Bash (Team Name: Meat Consortium).
Ingredients
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon ground coriander
3 tablespoons Chinese Five Spice
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon black sesame seed
1 tablespoon white sesame seed
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon red pepper flake
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Store in an air-tight container.
Try the rub on smoked pork ribs or chicken drumsticks/wings, using a mix of mustard and sriracha as a binding agent.
